Mulch does more than look good. A properly installed 3-inch layer regulates soil temperature, retains moisture, suppresses weeds, and protects plant roots from Florida’s heat. Properly mulched beds need significantly less irrigation than bare soil.

We install mulch right: beds edged and cleaned before application, weed barrier laid where needed, and mulch at the correct depth. No volcano mulching around trees, no thin single-layer applications that blow away in the first rainstorm.

What’s included

Hardwood Bark Mulch

Double-shredded hardwood is the standard choice for Sarasota landscapes. Breaks down slowly, holds in place, rich dark color.

Cypress Mulch

Naturally insect-resistant and slow to decompose. Popular for flower beds and around specimen plants.

Pine Bark

Large-nugget pine bark works well in sloped areas and around palms. Long-lasting with a natural look.

Rubber Mulch

Permanent solution for play areas and utility zones. No decomposition, stays in place, no annual refresh needed.

Weed Barrier Installation

Commercial-grade landscape fabric laid before mulch in high-weed areas. We cut cleanly around existing plants.

Seasonal Top-Off

Annual or bi-annual mulch refresh to maintain depth and color. Most beds need a 1-2 inch top-off each season.

FAQ

Common questions

How much does mulch installation cost in Sarasota?+

Pricing is based on square footage and depth. Most residential mulch installs run $3-$6 per square foot installed, including delivery, bed prep, and application.

How deep should mulch be in Florida?+

3 inches is the standard – enough to suppress weeds and retain moisture without smothering plant crowns. We never install more than 4 inches, and we always keep mulch 2-3 inches away from tree trunks and plant stems.

How often does mulch need to be replaced?+

Most mulch breaks down enough to need a 1-2 inch top-off every 12-18 months in Florida’s heat and humidity.

Should I use mulch or rock around my plants?+

Mulch is better for most plants – it feeds the soil as it breaks down and keeps roots cooler. Rock works well in utility zones, around AC units, and where you want zero maintenance.

Do you remove old mulch before installing new?+

For top-off jobs, removal isn’t necessary if the existing mulch is less than 4 inches total depth. For full replacements, we remove and haul away the old material before installation.
